Markham is a Southwest Portland neighborhood named after Charles Edward Anson Markham who was poet laureate of Oregon. Bordered by Multnomah Village and south Burlingame to the north, Marshall Park to the east, Arnold Creek to the south, and West Portland Park to the west, Markham is a lovely place to get away from it all while still being in Portland.
Markham seems much more residential and suburban than other neighborhoods located near downtown Portland. Walking through the streets you will find a variety of home styles with groomed lots and superb views of the city and surrounding forest. This community is desirable for individuals and families who prefer a less urban and more rural feeling neighborhood.
Residents of the Markham community get to enjoy the Hillsdale Farmer’s Market all year long. During the summer months, you can join friends and families to delight in concerts and movies in the park. While this area is mostly residential, there are plenty of unique eateries less than two miles away across Interstate 5 in Multnomah Village. Residents can stretch their legs and walk to local bars and cafes, or drive 10 minutes to downtown Portland for a greater variety.
Embrace the active Portland lifestyle right in the neighborhood with the Maricara Natural Area, a 17 acre woodland great for walking and hiking. Residents don’t have to travel far for more outdoor enjoyment with Marshall Park, Burlingame Park, and Jensen Natural Area all within a close distance of the neighborhood.
